Read United

United Way is thrilled to be able to continue Read United in Muncie Community Schools and expand into Anderson Community Schools during the 22-23 school year. Based on United Way of Central Indiana’s successful ReadUP program, Read United works to instill a love of reading through one-on-one tutoring.

What is Read United

Heart of Indiana United Way’s Read United program pairs volunteers with third grade students who are struggling to read at grade level.

We work with school leaders to form partnerships and identify those schools that have the greatest opportunity for improved success.

In Anderson, Read United will be in Anderson Elementary School and in Edgewood Elementary School and take place during the regularly scheduled reading block from 12:10 – 1:10 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

In Muncie, Read United will be in Grissom Elementary School and in Southview Elementary School and take place after school has released for the day.

NEW: Read United will also be at Longfellow Elementary School and take place on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 9:30-10:30 a.m.!

How Does it Work

Volunteers read with two students (30 minutes each). Together, the student and volunteer read, discuss, and write about their books.

New Training Dates Available

All training will take place in Heart of Indiana United Way offices.

In Anderson, training will take place on Oct. 24th at 3 PM.

In Muncie, training will take place on  Oct. 20th at 4:30 PM .
