Heart of Indiana United Way Launches Fund to Support Long-Term Flood Recovery Across Five-County Region

Flooding can leave a lasting impact long after the water recedes. While immediate response efforts focus on keeping people safe and meeting urgent needs, families may continue facing challenges with cleanup, repairs, replacement of belongings and other recovery needs for weeks and months to come.

Heart of Indiana United Way has established the Long-Term Flood Recovery Fund to support individuals and families affected by flooding across Delaware, Fayette, Henry, Madison and Randolph counties.

100% of donations to the  Long-Term Flood Recovery Fund will support local long-term recovery efforts.

We encourage donors to give where the need is greatest, allowing resources to be directed to communities and families with the most significant unmet needs. Because the impact of flooding and available assistance may vary from county to county, this flexibility helps ensure your donation can make the greatest possible difference.

We encourage donors to designate to where help is needed most, but donors that prefer to do so, may select to donate to any of the following counties, Fayette, Delaware, Henry, Madison or Randolph.

Supporting Families Beyond the Immediate Response

Recovery looks different for every family. Some may need help with home repairs or replacing essential belongings, while others may have needs that aren’t covered by insurance, government assistance or other disaster resources.

As recovery efforts develop, funds will support local Long-Term Recovery Committees in affected counties. These community-led groups bring together nonprofits, local organizations, volunteers and other resources to identify unmet needs and help families move forward.

Heart of Indiana United Way has helped coordinate similar recovery efforts following previous disasters in our region, including tornadoes that impacted Pendleton, Selma and Winchester.

Why Long-Term Recovery Matters

The immediate aftermath of a disaster often receives the most attention, but the road to recovery can be much longer.

“Right now, our communities are focused on immediate needs and making sure people are safe. But we also know there will be families who are still trying to put their lives back together weeks and months from now. We want to make sure resources are there to help them through that recovery.”— Jenni Marsh, President & CEO, Heart of Indiana United Way
