Heart of Indiana United Way has been named Nonprofit of the Year by the Madison County Alliance, recognizing the organization’s long-standing commitment to strengthening families and communities across the region.
The award was presented during the Madison County Alliance Awards, honoring individuals and organizations that are making a meaningful and lasting impact in the community.
“This recognition means so much to all of us at Heart of Indiana United Way because so much of our work often happens behind the scenes,” said Kim Williams. “We are constantly bringing together partners, donors, businesses, volunteers, and nonprofits to help children and families move forward together.”
For more than 100 years, Heart of Indiana United Way has served Madison County and communities across its five-county region—connecting people, resources, and organizations to support the full picture of what it takes for families to thrive.
Through a multi-generational approach, the organization focuses on helping children succeed while also supporting parents and caregivers with the tools they need to build stability—whether that’s access to education, financial stability, healthcare, or essential supports.
Last year alone, programs supported through Heart of Indiana United Way helped more than 110,000 people across the region—nearly one in three individuals. In Madison County alone, more than 51,000 individuals were served.
“Behind every one of those numbers is a child, a parent, or a family working hard to build a better future,” Williams said.
For over a century, Heart of Indiana United Way has remained rooted in the community—supporting children in reaching their full potential, helping families navigate challenges, and bringing people together to create meaningful change.
“Our roots are here, our hearts are here, and this work is only possible because of a community that continues to show up for one another in meaningful ways,” Williams added.
As the organization looks ahead, Heart of Indiana United Way remains focused on building on this momentum—continuing to strengthen families, expand opportunity, and create a more resilient future for all.
